The British Karate Federation Four Nations Championships, the pinnacle of karate in the UK, took place at Edinburgh's Meadowbank Stadium on 11-12th September 2010.
With over 850 competitors and 60 teams gathering from around the UK, the weekend provided a spectacle of fair play and skill, as karateka showed their dedication, focus and love of the sport, Competing to the best of their ability, and providing an outstanding display of kata and kumite, this tournament provided the ideal preparation for many of Britain`s elite competitors, who are preparing for the WKF World senior championships scheduled for October 2010 in Belgrade, Serbia. National coaches Wayne Otto, England, Gerry Fleming, Scotland, Paul Scott, Wales, and James Brunton, N. Ireland, all attended with full squads using the championships as a gauge for Serbia.
The referees, from all four nations, headed by WKF'S Chico Mbakwe, ensured the competitors received the highest possible adjudication and 4 of the 43 officials were promoted from National to BKF level.
BKF President Terry Connell expressed his delight at the quality of entrants of all ages, and believes British Karate has made significant advances over the past number of years. He is especially thrilled at the level of skill displayed in the Disability Kata category, which was introduced to the competition in 2009, proving again, that Karate is a sport that can be enjoyed by all.
The thanks of The BKF Committee is extended to all coaches, competitors, and everyone who assisted in the organisation, administering and refereeing of the British Karate Federation 4 Nations Championships 2010.
Without you all, the event would not be possible.
As we look forward, we extend our best wishes to all those who participated in this years event, and look forward to seeing you all again in 2011.
