The 47th Senior European Championships took place in Adeje, Tenerife, over the 10th-13th May 2012. With the event finals being televised live for the first time it was essential that the programme ran smoothly. We were not disappointed, the bouts were run to the minute and all credit must go to the organisers for the smooth running of the event.
Two main points for the BKF/EKF were that Ticky Donovan OBE and Billy Brennan were asked to act as commentators during the finals.
A particular mention must go to Jonathan Mottram, who won the Bronze medal in the Mens' Kata. Jonathan has competed for many years and always shows tremendous etiquette on the tatami.
It was a proud moment for Jonathan when the flags were raised in his favour, especially as his coach, Ticky Donovan, was commentating. Congratulations to both.
Finally, the primary launch of the WKF campaign to gain acceptance for karate into the Olympics was announced at the congress meeting. This is the start of the "big push" and will be known as "The K is on the Way". Please click on the banner at the top of any page and help with the big push for recognition.
