The British Karate Federation is proud to announce that Hamish Adam has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list 2012 for his extraordinary services to karate.

An MBE (Members of the Order of the British Empire) honour recognises people of outstanding merit, and those who have committed themselves to service to the nation. Hamish has spent almost 50 years in the sport and his competitive achievements include Scottish, British, European and World titles. Amongst Hamish’s top achievements was being a member of the World Championships-winning British team in 1975 who became the first team to beat Japan.

Since founding the Meadowbank Karate Group in 1970 Hamish has consistently coached and nurtured Scottish, British, European and World champions in the sport of karate. He is an inspiration to many and has provided local communities with a safe and fun environment to learn a great sport. A sport that promotes many things including social integration, fairness, physical and mental balance, all things that Hamish has embodied and made a way of life.

Ever humble, Hamish was almost lost for words when asked by press how he felt about receiving the accolade. Now it has sunk in a bit he is clearly flattered and very grateful. His family are extremely proud and would like to convey their most sincere gratitude to the extended karate family and friends for all their kind words of support in congratulating Hamish.

In this Jubilee year and with the 2012 Olympics fast approaching we hope this in some way helps promote the sport of karate and its quest to make the 2020 games, the K is on the way!
