Sunday the 7th October, at the British International Open Championships in Glasgow, was a special day for karate with the opening ceremony focusing on “The K is on the Way”

What made it even more special was the announcement that Paralympic Gold Medallist, David Smith, had accepted an invitation to become the Patron for the athletes with disabilities. David won his gold medal in the rowing in the Paralympics this year and, coincidentally, was a former karate player as a youngster.

David also has a book due to be released about his life story, and all the hardships he suffered on the way. It will available to be purchased through the BKF web-site as soon as it is released, so watch this space!
