Ryan Freckleton recruited as Elite Performance Manager

Oct 29, 2012

Ryan Freckleton has been recruited by the BKF as Elite Performance Manager to prepare a performance plan in readiness for karate being accepted into the Olympics. The following is a short bio. of Ryan’s career.

Occupation

For eight years Ryan has managed within the Fitness Industry giving him the opportunity to develop his coaching and communication skills. His last post before leaving the industry was the “South of England Fitness Champion” which saw him oversee 30 Fitness Suites in their daily operations, use of initiatives, budgets and staff management.

Ryan’s passion for fitness and performance has seen him work within many Sports offering support and guidance to teams and athletes including Arsenal Ladies FC, England Basketball National League MK Lions, Luton Town Football Club, Saracen’s RFU Academy and Bedford Blues RFU.

Ryan’s main capacity for work within the aforementioned teams included Strength and Conditioning, Soft Tissue Therapy and the implementation of Performance Monitoring Systems.

For the past five years, Ryan has been Lecturing Sports Science at Oaklands College and also Hertfordshire University (consortium programmes). There is a strong belief that Sports Science, Coaching and Teaching come from the same family and this is something which Ryan strongly believes in.

As part of his personal development, Ryan returned from his own personal sporting journey to develop Sports Academies with a particular aim at 16 – 19 year olds. Currently Ryan manages and coaches the strongest Athletics academy within the UK.

As a direct result of his efforts, Ryan has now formed an endorsed partnership with the UK Athletics development team and they are now turning to his programme as a basis of best practice.

In addition to this, Ryan also sits on the British College of Sport National Committee Board offering advice, and discussing the development of athletics, in the college sector.

Sporting achievements

Ryan has competed for a number of years across many differing sports. With an athletics background, Ryan secured a place within the British Bobsleigh Squad in 2006 as part of a Talent Identification Programme, aiming to find those athletes with raw talent who could be taught the skills required to compete in Bobsleigh.

Ryan spent two seasons competing in the European Cup where athletes learn and refine the skills of the sport.

In 2008, Ryan made his World Cup debut, competing against the best in the World in Cesana, Italy.

It was the 2009/10 Winter Olympic Year that Ryan’s hard work came together and he departed Great Britain as a full World Cup athlete. This saw him travel and compete in North America and Europe, where he contributed to some of Britain’s best “push starts” for a number of years.

It was for this reason than when tough selection decisions were made, Ryan emerged named as one of the traveling Team GB squad members for Bobsleigh at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.

With Ryans’ skills and qualifications the BKF are looking forward to a long and successful relationship.
